Life Member Affinity Group
Mission Statement
The Mission of the IEEE Melbourne Section Life Member Affinity Group is to promote the interest of
Greater Melbourne/Brevard County Students in Grades K through 12 in the principles of Science and Engineering.
Vision
1. Provide the services of Life Members (LM) to serve on the Brevard Science Advisory Council.
2. Provide engineering expertise and advice to the Council for the improvement of science
education in Brevard County.
3. Promote continuous progress in scientific competence for all students by utilizing a
cycle of research, communication, planning, evaluation and review. Jointly participate
with parents of school students, science teachers, school administrators scientists
(employed by private businesses) government agencies, contractors and universities.
4. Identify funding resources, grants, provide judging services and meaningful
awards for student scientific projects at Science Fairs.
5. Review evaluation of effectiveness of Brevard's Science Education in
addressing pre-K through 12 Florida Sunshine State Standards.
6. Apply for IEEE PACE funding for development of low cost science class
technology exhibits for teacher application during science training of
teachers during Bi-Annual County Teacher In-Service Training Program (TISP's).
7. Apply for IEEE PACE funding of K-12 female students to attend NASA science
exhibits such as the Sally Ride Training Program to reduce/remove the financial
barriers of attending such science lectures.
8. Apply for IEEE PACE funding for training of University IEEE Students to
further their careers in Science and Engineering.
9. Continue to support the IEEE FIT Student Activities in the construction
of Robonova-1 Robot Project and their development of a Technical Paper for
presentation during Joint LM Meeting and future TISP's. Provide LM support
to University Sponsored Robotics Clubs.
10. Provide engineering support to the Activities of the Melbourne Section
Educational Chair and the Melbourne Affinity Group Chairs.
11. Provide career counseling for middle school students prior to their
9th grade in which they must declare their high school "Major". Once their
"Major" is declared the new Florida Law requires that they must follow it
or present substantial reasons why they wish to change their "Major".
